The physical base of this project is a four masted steel barque, 157 metres from the tip of the bowsprit to the end of the spanker boom, carrying over 8000 square metres of sailcloth in 31 sails, manned by 65 professional crew and 200 trainees.

This vessel will be an example of best practice in design, construction, systems integration and operation

SHAPE

HULL

 a steel hull designed and built to best 21st century standards with an anticipated operational life of 100 years

MACHINERY

multiple diesel-electric generators giving a  multi-purpose and variable power supply for propulsion and on board electricity

POWER

sail power is eminently 'green'

diesel electric power is low emission free'

solar cells will be part of the ship from her launch and will compliment her power supply

ACCOMMODATION

a mixture...

from cadets in two berth cabins 

to suites for VIPs and important guests

(all with full IT/LAN access) 

EXHIBITION SPACE

two 42 seat lecture theatres plus a 152 seat venue for seminars and drama

room for displays and exhibitions

FACILITIES

a chapel, classrooms, library, medical and dental centre, computer rooms, workshops and laboratories 

ACCESS

full disabled access and facilities as standard

AND...

storage for exhibition materials, recreational boats (including water level access from on board), even a retracting helicopter platform in the stern

TECH

this ship will be wired from the started - LAN, WiFi, ADSL

her navigation systems will be state of the art

OPERATION

FSP21 will be a British registered vessel operated by an UK based agency - but she will sail the world

her range will be 6000 miles and she will see the Pacific and Atlantic oceans as her playground

even at a moderate 8 knots under sail she would do 200 miles per day, every day she is at sea
